5 Day Trips You Must Do in Southwest Florida
Florida is the perfect size for day tripping.
It’s big enough so that you can go somewhere completely different from where you came from, but small enough so that you can be home in time for dinner. With a diversity of wildlife, culture, and ecosystems, it’s all the reason to head out for the day. Think of these three spots for your next day trip!
Delnor-Wiggins State Park
Enjoy a vacation from your vacation at this barrier island. As soon as you see the white sands and blue waters, all of your worries will melt away. Enjoy beachcombing, snorkeling, and swimming in the waters here. Keep an eye out for ospreys and even the occasional loggerhead turtle!
Did you know of Florida’s history in the natural sponge business? The locals here are happy to tell you all about it! You can even pick up some natural sponges of your own at the many shops around here, once you finish touring the Tarpon Springs Heritage Museum.
The Naples Preserve
Hike through the Pine Flatwoods and Oak-Rosemary Scrub as you take the boardwalk through the 9.5 acres of natural beauty set aside by the city of Naples. The environment is home to rabbits, gopher tortoises, and butterflies, so make sure to look for them! When you’re done touring the area, stop by the Hedges Family Eco-Center to learn about the wonderful wildlife that you saw!
This funky, fun part of Tampa is colored with this history of immigrants who emigrated here and made a living for themselves in cigar factories. Today, we find influences of those histories in the art and food of the city. Café con leche, anyone?
Picayune Strand State Forest
You can’t turn down a day trip to Florida’s fourth largest national forest, especially when it has so much to do! Enjoy kayaking down the many rivers that run through here, or searching for animals such as black bears, white-tailed deer, and wild turkey. Best of all, this park is located right by Naples Reserve!
There’s a reason this adorable Gulf coast community consistently ranks high in measures of pretty much everything. According to the survey, residents here have the lowest levels of worry, depression, and stress, and the highest of life enjoyment. Naples locals also rank highest for making time for regular vacations or trips with family and friends. Sounds like a dream! And one of the main things that make Naples so happy is Naples Reserve, one of the premier residences in the area. A 688-acre residential community that’s tucked aside the Picayune Strand State Forest, residents are invited to find their happy amongst the recreational lakes, on-site club, and amenity center that features a sand volleyball court and a pool.
