But at Naples Reserve, tennis is far from zero—it’s just the beginning for those who love the game. With 5 available courts here, you can always pick up a game with a single, invite a pair for doubles or have a family day out of serve and volley, backhands, overheads and match points.

To start, you’ll need some basic equipment like a racquet, balls and athletic shoes. If you’re visiting or traveling and didn’t pack anything, no worries. There are sports stores and retailers all over the area that have tons of tennis gear.

So just remember, whether you’re just beginning in tennis or a long-time player, you don’t start at zero, you’re already in the game at love-love.

PICKLEBALL—The new craze hits Naples Reserve
It’s a funny sounding name for a game that’s part tennis, part ping-pong and part badminton. Pickleball was invented in the mid-sixties in Washington State. It’s been said to have been named after the family dog named Pickles. Some say it was named after a pickle boat. Regardless, it can be a fun-in-the-sun activity for all ages.

Pickleball starts with a court about one-third the size of a regulation tennis court, a 36- inch-tall net, a Wiffle Ball-type plastic ball, paddles instead of racquets and players that find it all so addictive.

So it seems the pickleball craze is not a fad, it’s definitely here to stay. With courts popping up all over the country, it’s one of the fastest growing sports in the US. If you haven’t already tried it, come by the pickleball courts in Naples Reserve, pick up a paddle, hit the courts and practice your skills and strategy. There’s always someone around to give you a ‘dinking’ tip. Before you know it, you’ll have a craving for the craze that’s called pickleball.

BEACH VOLLEYBALL—Can you dig it?
At Naples Reserve, beach volleyball isn’t a spectator sport—you can join right in on the action.

Most of you know volleyball from playing in school gym class or at the church social. Remember those perfectly set bumps, a miraculous dig or monster spike? You probably played 9-on-9 or 6-on-6 players. Beach volleyball for a lot of us is a spontaneous pick-up game of kids vs. adults or family vs. family. At Naples Reserve, you’ll find sand volleyball enthusiasts practicing their sets and spikes. If you’re just learning the game, you can meet new players, socialize and have some fun.

So, can you dig beach volleyball? If you’ve got some athletic ability and a competitive passion for playing, who knows where it’ll take you. Wherever it does, you’ll know you’ll have some exciting moments and a lot of fun playing in the sand with some new friends.

BOCCE BALL—You’ll be bowled over!
For those who don’t already know the game, bocce today for the most part is played on a court of crushed stone, clay, shells and sometimes grass. And this bowling has nothing to do with knocking down pins. Sorry, wrong game!

If you’ve ever played horseshoes, it’s a similar game. But in bocce ball, a team throws a smaller ball to aim at called a jack. This little ball is used to determine points awarded for bowling your team’s balls closest to the jack. It can be competitive and down right fun with laughs and goofing on other players.

Now, it’s up to you to get out and have some fun-in-the-sun at Naples Reserve—instead of reading this magazine all day. The ball’s in your court.
