Naples Reserve kayaker helps other residents enjoy the water

The lakefront lifestyle at Naples Reserve – iStar’s 688-acre South Naples community of Southern Coastal-inspired attached villa, single-family and custom estate homes – plays a big part in attracting residents to the community. Created amongst 22 lakes and sweeping open water views, the community includes resort-inspired, waterfront amenities like the $7-million Island Club social center and the Outrigger Center, which offers a variety of watercraft options available for residents’ use on the lakes.

Longtime kayaker Bob Jack likes that he doesn’t have to go any farther than his own neighborhood to enjoy the water. “You can really spend some time paddling at Naples Reserve,” he said. “There’s a good distance to paddle, and it’s pretty and peaceful. And seeing eagles in the back part of the big lake is pretty common.”

He wants to help others enjoy this pastime he finds so appealing, which is why he provides free kayaking lessons for interested Naples Reserve residents on the community’s 125-acre Eagle Lake. He knows that folks who are new to a sport like kayaking often need some guidance before taking to the water themselves.

“A lot of people didn’t have the first clue when it came to paddling,” said Jack. “So I threw the idea of giving lessons out there to pass along some of my knowledge to others. I wanted to teach people just the very basics so they could enjoy themselves.”

He’s already taken several residents out on the water and stands ready to help more if the interest is there. “If I have the time and people approach me, I’ll give them some lessons,” said Jack. “A lot of people don’t even know which way to turn the paddle, which is what got me interested in showing people how to do it the right way.”

Kayaking is just one option for living life by the water at Naples Reserve. The community’s lakes also provide prime opportunities for using its new Hydrobikes, canoeing, paddleboarding and enjoying scenic vistas. The centerpiece Eagle Lake features a large tiki hut on destination Kontiki Island and also offers a mile-long rowing lane nestled against the Picayune Strand State Forest, a 76,000-acre state park with protected pinelands, cypress swamps, marshes and abundant wildlife.

iStar has completed the community’s initial lakefront resort-inspired amenities, including the Island Club social center featuring a 5,160-square-foot clubhouse and an adjacent 3,500-square-foot fitness center with state-of-the-art equipment and a movement studio for spinning, Zumba and yoga. Outdoors, an expansive, resort-style, zero-entry pool offers dedicated lap lanes and ample room for relaxation.

Indoor and alfresco gathering areas at the Island Club include a lakeside fire pit and casual beverage and dining options at the Chat ‘n Chill Tiki Bar and Latitudes Cafe. In addition to offering watercraft for residents’ use, the Outrigger Center serves as the departure point for cruises on the community’s two Duffy electric boats that can explore Eagle Lake and Kontiki Island. Naples Reserve also offers homebuyers along Eagle Lake the opportunity for a personal floating boat dock.

The lakefront Match Point complex, now open, offers residents access to five tennis and four pickleball courts. Nearby, the Walk & Wag dog park provides a place for residents and four-legged friends to enjoy together. An additional dog park – Paws Awhile – is also planned, as well as a Kid’s Cove playground and picnic area and a meandering linear park for biking, hiking and jogging. Navigating a loop road circling Naples Reserve, the park is designed to engage residents with their natural environment and provide an alternative mode of transportation throughout the community.

A best-selling South Naples community, Naples Reserve offers 18 fully decorated models available for viewing, built by Southwest Florida’s premier homebuilders, including Ashton Woods, D.R. Horton, Florida Lifestyle Homes, KTS Homes, Lundstrom Development, Marvin Development, McGarvey Custom Homes and Stock Signature Homes. Homes are priced from the low $300,000s to more than $1 million.

Naples Reserve is located off U.S. 41, 2 miles southeast of the Collier Boulevard/CR 951 intersection and 10 minutes from I-75, Exit 101. Visit the community at 14885 Naples Reserve Circle or online at
