New Fitness Trail opens at Naples Reserve

Posted on August 9, 2019

Naples Reserve, iStar’s 688-acre community of Southern Coastal-inspired attached villa, single-family and custom estate homes in South Naples, recently held a ribbon cutting for its new fitness trail. Approximately nine-tenths of a mile, the trail offers 12 stations where residents can exercise different parts of their bodies.

“The fitness trail is a wonderful addition to the community,” said Maria DeMarco, activities director for Naples Reserve. “It fits right in with recently being named a Blue Zones Project recognized homeowner’s association as a free amenity that helps residents enjoy a healthy and active lifestyle.”

Signage at each stop offers instructions and suggested exercises. During the official opening of the trail, Naples Reserve resident Adam Recla, a certified personal trainer and owner of Undefeated Soul Fitness, demonstrated each station.

“I explained how to vary the exercises to make them less strenuous for beginners or more challenging for people more advanced in their fitness journey,” said Recla. “The fitness trail provides outdoor options beyond biking or walking to take fitness to the next level. The stations on the trail have exercises for many fitness elements, like improving muscular strength and endurance, flexibility and balance.

“It’s so nice every morning when I go to work and see everyone using the trail,” said Karen Day, iStar’s lead landscaping consultant who created the landscape design for both the trail and the entire Naples Reserve community. “Residents get to walk, jog or run along the trail and then stop along the way to exercise in the fresh air.”

Rock wall barriers surround each station, where Day chose plantings such as palm trees plus ixora, jasmine and other ornamental shrubs to add visual interest and create a buffer between the trail and any nearby homesites. Several varieties of ferns and vines help create a groundcover. “Some of the vines will grow over the rocks, and most have flowers,” said Day. “Naples can be a tough area for plants because of our extreme weather patterns, but we’ve gotten our plant palette pretty much down here at Naples Reserve. People who come into the community are blown away by the landscaping.”

Each station on the fitness trail was constructed using recycled materials and artificial turf was installed directly underneath the exercise equipment. “It was my first experience with artificial turf,” said Day. “It’s low maintenance and we won’t have to worry about refilling or replacing resources.”

Naples Reserve was created amongst 22 lakes, which provide prime opportunities for using the community’s Hydrobikes, kayaking, canoeing, paddleboarding and enjoying scenic vistas. The 125-acre Eagle Lake features a large tiki hut on destination Kontiki Island, in addition to a mile-long rowing lane nestled against the Picayune Strand State Forest, a 76,000-acre state park with protected pinelands, cypress swamps, marshes and abundant wildlife.

The community’s lakefront, resort-inspired amenities include the $7-million Island Club social center, which features a 5,160-square-foot clubhouse and an adjacent 3,500-square-foot fitness center with state-of-the-art equipment and a movement studio for spinning, Zumba and yoga. Outdoors, an expansive, resort-style, zero-entry pool offers dedicated lap lanes and ample room for relaxation.

Indoor and alfresco gathering areas at the Island Club include a lakeside fire pit and casual beverage and dining options at the Chat ‘n Chill Tiki Bar and Latitudes Cafe. The nearby Outrigger Center offers a variety of watercraft options available for residents’ use and serves as the departure point for cruises on the community’s two Duffy electric boats for exploring Eagle Lake and Kontiki Island. Naples Reserve also offers homebuyers along Eagle Lake the opportunity for a personal floating boat dock.

At the lakefront Match Point complex, residents can challenge their neighbors to some friendly competition on five tennis and four pickleball courts. Nearby, the Walk & Wag dog park provides a place for residents and four-legged friends to enjoy together. An additional dog park – Paws Awhile – is also planned, as well as the Kid’s Cove area. Navigating a nearly two-mile meandering linear park for biking, hiking and jogging circling Naples Reserve, the park is designed to engage residents with their natural environment and provide an alternative mode of transportation throughout the community.

Naples Reserve offers 18 fully decorated models available for viewing built by Southwest Florida’s premier homebuilders, including Ashton Woods, D.R. Horton, Florida Lifestyle Homes, KTS Homes, Lundstrom Development, Marvin Development, McGarvey Custom Homes and Stock Signature Homes. Homes are priced from the low $300,000s to more than $1 million.

Naples Reserve is located off U.S. 41, 2 miles southeast of the Collier Boulevard/CR 951 intersection and 10 minutes from I-75, Exit 101. Visit the community at 14885 Naples Reserve Circle or online at NaplesReserve.com.
